DeadPoodle – A Deadpool Satire
A little backstory.
Okay let’s be honest. People love Deadpool, but I’ve never really gotten into him. He’s just not written for me. I like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool but again just not for me. But when I came up with the idea of drawing Superhero Animals this was one of the things that just popped in my head that I wanted to do. I knew there was Peter Porker, and I knew about Throg the Thunder Frog… but Deadpool didn’t have an animal version that I knew off and DeadPoodle just hit me like square in the face.
The style of the drawing itself is purely pencil and crosshatching. It was inspired by the amazing work of Will Terry and I took up the idea as a way to stretch my creative muscles. In his fan art pieces he does Marvel Heroes as kids and I really loved that but didn’t want to copy his idea… just work out stylistically he did what he did. He also starts with a black and white crosshatched digital pencil drawing and adds color as overlays. This was the first piece I did and I did it all digitally as well but later pieces I moved to doing the base drawing on paper.
Since this was the first in a series of these it was really the experiment. I did this one all digitally and it was fun trying to break apart another style and make it my own. I don’t remember struggling with it other than just getting the overall concept down. I do wish I had done a better job on the hairdryer gun but it works. The biggest challenge on this was was literally getting my digital tablet to work. I was on vacation at the time and my tablet wasn’t syncing with my laptop. I eventually realized I needed an update to my driver for my tablet and the download speed was horrendous. Anyway that’s all I got on that for now.

A little backstory. This is the second piece in a series of Marvel Animals. I always loved Throg - The Frog of Thunder since way back when he appeared in Walt Simonson's run in Thor. He's absurd, silly and a whole heap of fun. As a kid this was just funny and cool and...read more
A little backstory. As a kid I got a kick out of the Peter Porker comics. They weren't as cool as the regular Spider-Man comics but still I got a kick out of them. However it wasn't until recently that I really started loving drawing them. I love embracing my cartoony...read more
